September 6 outlines three distinct forces: European technological sovereignty in microelectronics and drones, digital infrastructure continuing to absorb massive capital in Nordic countries, and a series of sectoral consolidations — accounting, private healthcare, elevators — where size becomes the only answer to margin pressure. In France, two deals involving NanoXplore deserve particular attention: together, they form a coherent strategic move that their separate reading obscures.

CPP Investments and Equinix finalize atNorth acquisition: the Nordics as a global computing hub

Source: newswire.telecomramblings.com → · Sector Developer & IT Infrastructure — 📬 subscribe to the Developer & IT Infrastructure newsletter

CPP Investments (Canadian pension fund) and Equinix finalize the acquisition of atNorth, a Nordic data center operator, for approximately $4B. atNorth operates eight data centers across the five Nordic countries (Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark), with several projects under development.

The Nordic countries combine three simultaneous advantages for intensive computing infrastructure: abundant and largely renewable electrical energy, low temperatures that drastically reduce cooling costs, and political and legal stability. For AI and HPC (high-performance computing) workloads that consume considerable amounts of electricity, this is a location that structurally reduces operating costs.

For Equinix, the operation extends its geographical coverage in a strategic region for hyperscalers. For CPP Investments, it is an infrastructure asset with recurring revenues, backed by demand that shows no signs of slowing down. The combination of an industrial operator (Equinix) and a long-term investor (CPP) is the natural structure to finance data centers whose construction and amortization cycles extend over fifteen to twenty years — a horizon that classic private equity funds cannot sustain.

Fincantieri consolidates underwater: when the seabed becomes a strategic frontier

    Source: akm.ru →

Italian shipyard Fincantieri acquires majority stakes in four companies specializing in underwater technologies for €600M: Next Geosolutions Europe (marine research and geophysics), WSense (underwater communications), Graal Tech (underwater drones), and Defcomm (autonomous boats). The operation doubles Fincantieri's underwater division revenue to €1.1B annually.

The industrial logic is direct: submarine cables, pipelines, and offshore energy infrastructures have become documented military targets since 2022. Demand for surveillance, protection, and intervention in the seabed is exploding — driven by both NATO navies and civilian infrastructure operators. Fincantieri, which already builds WASS submarines (acquired from Leonardo in 2025), is equipping itself with a complete ecosystem: from autonomous drones to geophysical sensors, including communication and detection.

For French naval defense or offshore infrastructure players, Fincantieri's move outlines an integrated competitor that will be difficult to compete with on NATO or European tenders without a comparable offering. The question for Naval Group and its partners: at what point does an alliance or counter-consolidation become necessary?

Forvis Mazars acquires Groupe BBM: the race for size in accounting is not what it seems

Source: mesinfos.fr → · Sector Horizontal & Productivity SaaS — 📬 subscribe to the Horizontal & Productivity SaaS newsletter

Forvis Mazars announces the acquisition of Groupe BBM, an Isère-based accounting firm located in Seyssinet-Pariset, founded in 1973, with €24M in revenue, 250 employees, and 3,500 clients — primarily VSEs, SMEs, and mid-caps, with a notable concentration in medical imaging and innovative young companies in the Alpine furrow.

The immediate interpretation: a large network acquires a solid regional firm to expand its Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes coverage. A classic build-up operation in a sector that has been consolidating for ten years.

But look at the geography of BBM's portfolio: over a third of its revenue comes from medical imaging groups, and the firm is positioned as a reference partner for deeptech startups in the Alpine furrow — Grenoble, Annecy, Chambéry. Forvis Mazars is not buying a generalist provincial firm; it's buying privileged access to two high-value, fast-growing segments in a region with an extraordinary industrial and technological density. BBM's 70% growth in six years is not the result of ordinary management — it reflects a positioning with rapidly expanding clients.

For a competing firm or a fund supporting healthcare or deeptech mid-caps in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the signal is clear: client portfolios specialized in high-growth sectors are becoming strategic assets in their own right, and their acquisition is justified at multiples that generalist firms never achieve.

Hardloop and iXO Private Equity: when founders take back control

    Source: ie24.fr → · Sector Retail & E-commerce Tech — 📬 subscribe to the Retail & E-commerce Tech newsletter

iXO Private Equity invests in Hardloop, an outdoor e-commerce platform based in Annecy, as part of a shareholder restructuring that sees founders Guillaume Richard and Julien Jérémie regain a very large majority stake. Historical investors — Seventure Partners, SGPA, Kima Ventures, and various business angels — cash out their capital gains and exit. Amount undisclosed. Stated objective: €100M in revenue in a European outdoor market estimated at over €6 billion.

The operation reverses the usual venture capital mechanism, where each round dilutes founders. Here, the restructuring returns control to them. This is not a sign of failure — it is a sign that first-generation funds have reached their holding horizon and that the founders preferred to buy back their strategic freedom rather than accept a new investor who would have further diluted them.

For iXO, a specialist in growth capital for French mid-caps, the bet is simple: support European consolidation in a fragmented market, with re-engaged founders freed from short-term constraints. This is an investment profile closer to growth equity than classic venture.

Verifone and Monext: a partnership that says what the two players cannot do alone

Source: verifone.com → · Sector FinTech — 📬 subscribe to the FinTech newsletter

Verifone and Monext formalize a strategic partnership around omnichannel payments in France. Monext will deploy Verifone's Victa terminal range. No acquisition, no equity stake — a structuring commercial agreement.

The logic is clear: Monext is strong in e-commerce payments, Verifone in physical point-of-sale payments. Neither can cover the entire purchasing journey of a merchant selling both online and in-store alone. The partnership is the pragmatic answer to a demand for channel unification that neither can satisfy independently without massive investment.

In a payment market where large integrated platforms (Stripe, Adyen) are gaining ground through their total coverage, specialized players have only two options: merge or ally. This partnership is the less committing version of a merger — and thus, potentially, the first step towards something more structural.

NTT Data acquires Netgain AB: ServiceNow consolidation continues in Scandinavia

    Source: delphi.se →

NTT Data Business Solutions acquires Netgain AB, a Swedish ServiceNow specialist founded in 2008, with approximately 60 employees, from CombinedX Professional Services. The operation is subject to Swedish regulatory approval (foreign investment control). Netgain will join The Cloud People, a subsidiary of NTT Data Business Solutions.

ServiceNow has become critical infrastructure for large organizations — managing IT, HR, and legal workflows. Integrators specializing in this platform are rare, and their acquisition follows a simple logic: buy the expertise and client base rather than build them. For CombinedX, the divestment of Netgain is likely a refocusing on its core activities; for NTT Data, it is another step in a methodical consolidation of European ServiceNow integrators.

Spire Healthcare: UK private healthcare under pressure, acquired at an opportunistic price

Source: lse.co.uk → · Sector HealthTech & Digital Health — 📬 subscribe to the HealthTech & Digital Health newsletter

Spire Healthcare group — 38 hospitals and over 55 clinics in the UK — accepts a takeover offer from a consortium comprising Toscafund, Three Hills, and Ares, valuing the group at approximately €1.2B (£1.026 billion), a 66% premium over the market capitalization on May 13, the last day before the disclosure of a received offer.

The 66% premium is spectacular — but it applies to a depressed share price. Spire's designated chairwoman states it bluntly: sectoral prospects are volatile, cost pressures have been "material" (increased employer contributions, minimum wage), and the board concluded that this offer represented "the best available outcome for shareholders." In other words: it's not that the offer is generous, it's that the alternatives were worse.

Toscafund, Three Hills, and Ares are acquiring an asset under operational strain in a sector where structural demand (NHS waiting lists, aging population) remains strong. The bet is that margin pressure is cyclical — linked to recent political choices on labor costs — and that the long-term value of the UK private hospital network is significantly higher than what the listed market was willing to value under quarterly results constraints.

Kone considers TK Elevator: elevator consolidation hits antitrust hurdles

    Source: akm.ru →

Finnish Kone is studying a partial or total acquisition of German TK Elevator (former Thyssenkrupp subsidiary), in partnership with other players to circumvent concentration issues in Europe. Advent and Cinven, current owners, are preparing an IPO, which has rekindled Kone's interest — already an unsuccessful bidder in 2020. In 2025, the Saudi sovereign wealth fund acquired a stake valuing TK Elevator at €23B including debt.

The elevator sector's real profitability lies in maintenance, not in new equipment sales. TK Elevator manages 50,000 people and €9.3B in sales — a global maintenance network representing considerable recurring revenue. Kone has known this since 2020. The envisioned structure — partial acquisition with partners to avoid antitrust — suggests that a direct takeover is impossible without prior divestment of European assets. The operation, if it materializes, would be less an industrial merger than a geographical dismemberment negotiated with regulators.

Bridgepoint acquires UMag: European private equity builds its defense drone sector

Source: akm.ru →

Bridgepoint acquires a majority stake in Danish UMag Solutions for €250M. UMag produces drones and detection systems for unexploded ordnance and naval mines, primarily for NATO member navies. The founders retain a significant stake and remain in charge.

This is Bridgepoint's third acquisition in Nordic defense in two years, after MyDefence (drone detection and jamming, 2024) and Comrod Communication (Norwegian tactical communications, 2025). The strategy is clear: Bridgepoint is methodically building a portfolio of complementary Nordic defense SMEs, in a context where European defense budgets are structurally increasing and demand for demining and maritime security solutions is directly fueled by the Baltic geopolitical context.

For a French or European fund looking at the defense sector, Bridgepoint has taken a significant lead in building a Nordic mid-market defense group. The window for equivalent targets is narrowing.

Lithosquare raises €22M: geological AI to find the metals demanded by the energy transition

Lithosquare announces €22M raised (including €3M in pre-seed eighteen months ago and €19M recently), led by World Fund and Kindred Capital, with Daphni, Omnes Capital, and Ovni Capital. The startup is developing a geological AI model to detect copper, lithium, and rare earth deposits.

Lithosquare's promise is to find what classic exploration methods miss. In a context where demand for critical metals for batteries and semiconductors far exceeds known extraction capacities, and where the geographical concentration of resources is a documented geopolitical risk, reducing the cost and time of exploration is a real industrial challenge. The entry of World Fund — a fund focused on climate impact — alongside generalist investors signals that the investment case is deemed credible both technologically and in terms of long-term demand.

NanoXplore acquires Scalinx: two French gems form a European critical chip champion

    Source: industriel.net →

NanoXplore announces the acquisition of Scalinx, a French signal conversion circuit designer, for an undisclosed amount. NanoXplore masters digital technology — radiation-hardened FPGAs and SoCs for space, defense, and avionics. Scalinx masters analog technology — signal conversion, the interface between the physical and digital worlds. Together, they can design integrated RFSoC architectures capable of simultaneously processing radio signals and embedded digital processing.

The obvious interpretation: Franco-French deeptech consolidation, technological sovereignty, a nice press release.

The reality is more precise. In space and defense electronics, dependence on American (Xilinx/AMD, Analog Devices) or Asian components is a documented operational risk, not a geopolitical abstraction. The Galileo, Copernicus, Iris2, and NeoSat programs already embed NanoXplore FPGAs — meaning Europe has begun building an alternative supply chain. But an FPGA alone is not enough: the signal converter that feeds it is also needed. This is exactly the gap Scalinx fills. By integrating almost all of Scalinx's teams, NanoXplore is not just acquiring technology — it is preserving a rare expertise that, if it disappeared, could not be rebuilt in Europe in less than a decade.

To be read in conjunction with the €20M fundraising announced on the same day: NanoXplore acquires and raises capital simultaneously, suggesting a deliberate sequence — capital to finance industrial ramp-up, acquisition to complete the technical offering. For a European investor or defense industrialist, this is the trajectory of a player building itself into a niche champion at an unusual speed.

Pennylane raises €175M: mandatory electronic invoicing transforms a regulatory constraint into a market accelerator

    Source: the-club-house.fr →

Pennylane closes a €175M funding round led by TCV, with participation from Blackstone Growth and historical shareholders. Valuation: €3.5B. Total raised since its creation in 2019: €359M over six rounds.

The surface reading: a well-funded French B2B fintech that continues to grow.

The underlying mechanism is more interesting. Mandatory electronic invoicing between businesses, whose progressive deployment is underway in France, is a regulatory constraint that forces millions of VSEs and SMEs to adopt compliant financial management software — whether they want to or not. For Pennylane, this is the equivalent of a captive market created by decree: every company that must comply is a potential client who has no choice but to abandon Excel or a non-certified solution. The €175M fundraising precisely finances the capacity to absorb this influx of forced adoption — product enhancement, infrastructure, European expansion into countries where similar obligations are emerging.

The entry of Blackstone Growth is an additional signal: it's no longer just venture funds betting on hypothetical growth; it's a growth equity player valuing revenue predictability. For French accounting firms — who are both prescribers and users of Pennylane — the question is no longer whether the platform will establish itself, but how quickly it will change the conditions of practicing the profession. The Forvis Mazars / BBM operation on the same day is not unrelated: the two movements together outline a recomposition of the accounting value chain.

NanoXplore raises €20M from MBDA and Bpifrance: a missile manufacturer invests in a chip designer

NanoXplore closes a €20M funding round from MBDA and Bpifrance. The agreement, signed in December 2025, marks the formal entry of the European missile leader into the capital of the Grenoble-based SME.

MBDA's entry is not an ordinary financial investment. A missile manufacturer taking a stake in a hardened FPGA designer says two things simultaneously: first, that NanoXplore's components will or are likely to equip weapon systems (modern missiles embed reprogrammable processors to adapt their guidance algorithms); second, that MBDA prefers to secure its supply by taking an equity position rather than remaining a simple client. This is the difference between a supplier and a strategic partner — a distinction that, in defense, determines capacity allocation priorities in case of production strain.

Read with the acquisition of Scalinx announced on the same day, NanoXplore's day outlines a two-step strategy: raise capital to finance industrial ramp-up, acquire to complete the technological offering. This is the profile of a company preparing to play in a higher league.

Nabu, a platform for automating customs formalities, closes €3M including €900,000 in non-dilutive funding. Getlink (Eurotunnel's parent company) and Maersk Growth (the corporate fund of the shipping giant) invest.

The combination of the two investors says everything about Nabu's positioning: Getlink controls a major physical crossing point between the UK and the continent, Maersk is one of the world's largest container transport operators. Both have a direct interest in reducing customs friction on their flows. These are not financial investors betting on abstract growth — they are strategic clients investing to accelerate the adoption of a tool they need. In a context of increasing tariff barriers, demand for customs automation is structurally rising, and Nabu's corporate investors also constitute its best distribution network.

AI Verse raises €5M for defense model training

AI Verse, based in Sophia-Antipolis, raises €5M from Supernova Invest and Bpifrance to facilitate the training of deep learning models in defense. The startup works on synthetic data generation and simulation to train autonomous perception systems in environments where real data is scarce, classified, or dangerous to collect.

In defense, AI model training faces a fundamental problem: operational data is either secret or non-existent for scenarios we hope never to encounter. Synthetic data is the industrial answer to this constraint, and the addressable market — all armed forces seeking to integrate autonomy into their systems — is structurally expanding in Europe.

The State and Mistral: €6M and engineers seconded to ministries

The French State strengthens its partnership with Mistral AI as part of an agreement signed by the Minister of Public Accounts, for €6M. Three priority use cases: cybersecurity (after the DGFiP hack exposed the tax data of 678,000 people), mass litigation processing at the Ministry of Justice, and fraud prevention. Mistral will directly second engineers to government administrations.

The amount is modest given Mistral's valuation (approximately €12B). What matters more is the modality: private engineers integrated into administrations to deploy AI tools on sensitive sovereign data. This is a form of inverted outsourcing — the State does not subcontract the work; it brings the service provider inside its walls. The precedent is significant: if the experiments conclude positively, the framework contract that follows will be on a completely different scale.

For French legaltech, cybersecurity, or document processing players, the signal is twofold: Mistral is positioning itself in high-recurrence public markets, and the State is validating the principle of sovereign generative AI deployed on critical data. Competition in these markets will intensify.
